Assistant Cafe Manager

Job Brief

The assistant cafe manager is responsible for assisting the cafe manger in running an efficient and profitable operation. They are responsible at a minimum for ensuring that the store meets company standards in sales, staffing, product quality, visual merchandising, ordering supplies and operations. They motivate the team to provide excellent customer service. Ultimately, the assistant cafe manager will help increase profitability, boost customer engagement, and turn the cafe into a favorite local spot.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing day-to-day operations of the cafe
  • Assist in hiring and onboarding new baristas
  • Train employees on drink and food preparation and proper use of cafe equipment
  • Assist with vendors and ordering supplies, as needed (i.e. takeaway cups, coffee, milk and other ingredients)
  • Add new menu items based on seasonality and customers’ preferences (ex: vegan coffee drinks)
  • Advise staff on the best ways to resolve issues with clients and deliver excellent customer service
  • Nurture friendly relationships with customers to increase loyalty and boost our reputation
  • Ensure all cafe areas are clean and tidy

Requirements

  • Work experience as a food service leader or barista
  • Hands-on experience with professional coffee machines preferred
  • Good math skills
  • Availability to work within opening hours (including weekends and holidays)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team
  • Customer service attitude
  • High school diploma
